It is officially Fairtrade Fortnight…time to spread the Fairtrade word and the chance to create a buzz for supporting our local businesses.
‘Better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world’.
This Fairtrade Fortnight the foundation has begun its campaign calling for all of us to ‘Go Further For Smallholder Farmers’. ‘Despite producing 70% of the world’s food, over half of the world’s hungriest people are smallholder farmers. With this petition they are calling on David Cameron to go further and champion a better deal for the world’s smallholder farmers at this year’s G8 meeting.’
At Careys Manor Hotel we have joined their petition with a mini marcher of our own. Mini ‘Careys Manor’ will join thousands of others on Parliament Square during Fairtrade Fortnight to start the march and get others to sign up to the petition too, which will be handed to David Cameron in May ahead of the 2013 G8 summit.
At Careys Manor Hotel and our sister hotel The Montagu Arms, we always opt for coffee with the FAIRTRADE Mark in all three of our restaurants, because we know it supports farmers and workers to get a better deal from trade.
Ethical Food Policy at Careys Manor:
Whether its our fine dining Manor Restaurant, Zen Garden Thai Restaurant or Le Blaireau French Bar & Bistro we believe that free-range organic produce is not just better, because of its purity and freedom from additives but because it tastes a lot better too.
We know too, how important it is to know where our produce comes from, especially since the latest news reports revealed a degree of distrust within food industry, so now, more than ever we would like to ensure our guests that they can dine with confidence at Careys Manor, because above all we believe that helping maintain the sustainability of local produce and ensuring quality, are key aspects of enhancing the guest experience.
Our Fairtrade efforts continue with our dedication to using seasonal, free-range ingredients sourced from carefully selected local suppliers, with many of our suppliers carrying the New Forest Marque, identifying authentic New Forest fare of the highest quality. Some of the New Forest suppliers that we use include: Owls Barn Farm meat, Lyburn Farm cheese, Clayton Eggs, Merry Orchard Mushrooms and the Eling Tide Mill Flour.
