Hidden Gems of the New Forest

The New Forest is a lively, working landscape with many secrets to discover. The best way to enjoy all that it has to offer is to get out there and explore the sights sounds, tastes and smells of the coast, villages and forest. In celebration of National Parks Week, Head Concierge of over 30 years and New Forest local, Colin Parks lets us in on a few of his best kept secrets. Find out where the locals go for a day out in the New Forest.   The New Forest Show - 28th, 29th & 30th JULY 2015 The New Forest and Hampshire County Show, or more commonly known as the New Forest Show, is an annual agricultural event held for three days at the end of July in New Park, near Brockenhurst. The show is a great day out for all the family and celebrates traditional country pursuits, crafts, produce and entertainment. Look out for our very own Executive Chef, Paul Peters who will be hosting a number of cooking demonstrations during the show. Find Out More

Secret Picnic Spot – Bolderwood The New Forest National Park offers plenty of shady spots in which to enjoy a picnic. Bolderwood has easy parking, picnic tables and cycle trails, plus there’s a deer viewing platform where you can spot the local wildlife. Find out more

Farmers Markets New Forest Farmers Markets are usually held once a month to sell fresh local produce such as mouthwatering cakes, hearty pies, carefully-reared meat and traditional New Forest crafts, many of which bear the New Forest MarqueExpect to see local jams and chutneys from Spice ‘n’ Easy and British cheeses from Loosehanger and soaps made from goat’s milk by Cyril’s Soap Shed. Find Out More     Milford on Sea beach 01   Coastal New Forest Pebbles normally dominate Milford beach but at low tide the sand appears. Go onto the cliff top and park in the second car park (opposite Camden Hurst flats) and head on down to the beach. Often there is a sand bar 20-30 yards off shore – easy to swim to and at times it dries out completely. there is also a car park kiosk selling ice creams, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.
