Careys Manor Hotel is a wedding venue in Hampshire that offers a unique setting to make your perfect day magical. Our Wedding Coordinator Francoise and her team are on hand to ensure it is a stress free day that you will cherish forever. Our wedding packages are designed to cater to everyone, whether your budget is small or big. The fact is, weddings do not have to be expensive. You do not need a makeup artist or a cake maker; these can be sorted by a friend or even by yourself, saving you money to use on other things.
When it comes to makeup we all have a specific way of doing our own and this shouldn’t be any different on your wedding day. Here are our top tips on how to perfect the elegant bridal look yourself:
As you want to look perfect all day choose a foundation with a fuller coverage or alternatively, apply a makeup primer to your skin before application.
Contour, blush & highlight
Contouring and highlighting are key in adding dimension to your face. You will be photographed most of the day by a photographer and guests so it’s important to have a flawless makeup.
To contour your face, choose a matt bronzer that is a few shades darker than your natural skin tone. Make sure the bronzer is not too dark though as this won’t have the desired effect. Use a smaller blusher brush to contour just under the cheek bone, from the bottom of your ear down towards your mouth and along your chin bones. Then use a smaller eye shadow brush or cotton bud to contour your nose along the top of your nose.
For your blusher, choose a soft coral or pink colour and lightly apply along the cheek bones.
Choose a highlight powder with a gold undertone and apply just above the cheek bone. For the best application, use your index finger and apply down the middle of your nose, top of your lip on the cupids bone and just under your lip too. Using an eye showdown brush, apply a highlight just under the outer corner of your eyebrow.
To create the perfect eye brow, use a brow kit that includes a small angled brush and a colour that matches your hair colour. Use an eye brow pencil to outline your eye brows and fill using the powder. Finally, set by brushing on a clear eye brow gel to lock hairs in place.
A neutral eye make up look is the most popular among brides. On the main lid area of the eye (section A) apply a light neutral brown/beige to the eye with an eye shadow brush, then apply the highlight colour (used earlier in the contouring section) to the inner corner of the eye (section B). Along the crease of the eye (section C) apply a slightly darker brown to this area, this will create dimension to the eye.
To Finish your eye shadow, apply a darker brown just under the crease on the outer corner of the eye (just above section D) making sure none of this darker colour goes above the crease. Finally, apply black/brown eye liner along the top waterline of the eye, and use a white eye liner pencil along the lower water line. This will help to brighten the eye and make your eyes appear bigger.
To finish off, curl your eyelashes with an eye lash curler and apply your desired mascara. False eyelashes are also recommended but nothing too thick, just enough to add some natural volume to your eyelashes as these will look stunning in your photographs.
For bridal makeup, a soft pink or neutral lip colour is the most popular amongst brides. Once you have chosen your lip stick, make sure to also have a lip pencil in the same shade. Outline your lips using the lip pencil and then apply your lip stick. To finish off the lip look add a clear or similar colour lip gloss to add shine to your lips.
The Finishing Touch
Lastly to lock your full make up look in place, spray your face with a makeup setting spray. This will hold the make up in place all day and into the night.
