Russell proposed in 2006 on New Year’s Eve on a beautiful beach called Yallinup near where we live. The river means place of love in Margaret River, WA. We phoned our parents and they were so happy. Russell’s mum back in England was very unwell so we decided to return home to get married in the New Forest, a place we love.
When did you get married?
We married 4th October 2013
I didn’t buy a dress in Perth as I felt it was important for my mum to be there so as soon as I landed in the UK I went dress shopping with her in Boxmoor. It took us a few days of dress shopping before I found ‘the one’ although it was actually chosen by my mum. It was ivory and lace with a long train and lace back. It was stunning.
The Groom’s Outfit
Russell and his groomsmen went for a more smart/casual look with navy suits and blue converse trainers.
The bridesmaids wore Jenny Packham dresses chosen by Russell.
It was magical. As we live in Australia I asked my brother to choose the venue. I had looked on the internet and Careys Manor just topped it. The day was like a dream although I had fractured my elbow and wrist so mum had to help me get into my dress! I walked down the aisle to ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ from the Wizard of Oz. We cried and laughter throughout the ceremony and I had to wipe Russ’ face as he was so hot. We wrote our own vows too.
My family and I had waited 17 years for this day, that’s how long Russ and I had been together. Our beautiful son was the ring bearer and he did a great job. It was the best day of our lives however there was one special person missing. Unfortunately Russell’s mum had passed away but we know she would have been so proud of us.
We danced and danced, and then did some more dancing! Our Toast Master Toby did a fantastic job and no one was left sat down. We had friends and family there we hadn’t seen for 10 years and it was just the perfect party.
Tell us about the décor you chose
We chose a woodland theme with flowers, vines and bark. We had cream bird cards for the wine classes, birdcages for the table centre pieces and mum and I had picked some acorns for my table and used an old suitcase for the wedding cards. We had a lovely candy bar, very rustic with cream candles in love heart shaped glasses we had brought back from Spain where my mum lives. Our tables were named after beautiful beaches and mum also got some fudge from Burley for the tables.
How do you feel the day went?
Amazing, relaxing, stress free, beautiful, great party with wonderful family and friends. Careys Manor was just amazing.
Any particular memories from your wedding that stand out for you?
Mum has surprised Russell with 2 white doves which was wonderful. We just had the best day ever. We all stayed in a caravan park nearby before the wedding which made it feel like one big family holiday. Mum and dad bought us a 3 night trip to Rome as a surprise which was amazing and then it was time to say goodbye before we headed back home to Perth.
